The Big Rig Tow team from Quality Towing was called on for an interstate transport last week. A local driver was starting his journey from Barstow, CA, to Las Vegas, NV, transporting a reefer trailer (refrigerated truck) full of fresh produce. As the driver was pulling out of the yard, he quickly realized that something was wrong!
There must have been an issue with the fifth wheel attachment as it was not properly locked in. This caused the fully loaded reefer trailer to start falling off the cab! Thankfully, the driver quickly noticed the issue and immediately stopped driving. The reefer trailer was now in a very precarious position; any movement from the cab could have caused it to fall off completely and sustain serious damage.
One positive thing to note is that reefers have their own power units. The power unit was not damaged so the fresh produce was still under adequate refrigeration! It would have been a shame to have all that fresh produce go to waste.
The Quality Towing team made the journey to Barstow with their 50 ton wrecker. While this would have been an intimidating situation for many, the big rig towing team at Quality knew they could handle the job! They hooked up two chains to the trailer and slowly lifted it into the air. This gave the driver of the truck enough clearance to move his cab out of the way.
The team put the reefers landing gear in place and then connected their wrecker to the reefer. With everything secure and in place, the Quality Towing team made the 3 hour drive back to Las Vegas! Great work out there team!
A big rig tow team was requested at a truck yard in Barstow, California. Quality Towing’s big rig tow team accepted the job and made their way to the client. The big rig tow team took I-15 S all the way from their office in Las Vegas to the client’s location in Barstow.
The big rig tow team arrived at the client’s location after a 3 hour drive. The big rig towing team assessed the situation. A fully loaded reefer trailer was carrying fresh produce from California to Las Vegas. The big rig tow team noted that as the driver was beginning his journey, he made a turn and the reefer trailer began to fall off the cab.
The big rig tow team noted that the cause of the problem was likely a bad connection causing the fifth wheel to detach completely from the cab. The big rig towing team further noted that the reefer had its own power unit and therefore the contents remained refrigerated.
The big rig team backed their wrecker towards the trailer. The big rig tow team hooked up to the reefer trailer using two chains, one on either side of the trailer. The big rig tow team then lifted the reefer trailer into the air. The big rig towing team then loaded the landing gear on the trailer using the manual handle.
The driver of the cab now had enough clearance to safely pull his cab out of the way. The big rig tow team then hooked up their wrecker to the trailer and hauled it back to Las Vegas.
